Worsley and Voyce back for Wasps

London Wasps welcome back Tom Voyce and Joe Worsley for their clash with Worcester at Adams Park tomorrow.

Voyce has been sidelined since December with a knee injury that required reconstructive surgery. He returns ahead of schedule and is joined in the starting line up by Joe Worsley, who has also missed out on Wasps’ last few outings with injury.

In other changes from the team that beat Leicester at Welford Road a fortnight ago, Dominic Waldouck replaces Fraser Waters in the centre, Mark McMillan partners Danny Cipriani at half back and Josh Lewsey reverts to full back. In the pack Tom French and Joe Ward come into the front row for Tim Payne and Raphael Ibanez, whilst George Skivington gets the nod at lock. He replaces Simon Shaw, who takes his place on a strong bench that includes fellow internationals Payne, Eoin Reddan, Dave Walder and Mark Van Gisbergen.

The game marks the start of a hectic period for Ian McGeehcna’s side with  three Guinness Premiership games in the next eight days.

Director of Rugby Ian McGeechan said: “We gave the players a good break following the Leicester game, which was important rest time before we began preparing for this next block of three games.

“The challenge for us as a coaching team has been how we manage the squad though this next eight days. We need to keep winning and maintain consistency in our play, but because the games come so close together, delivering on the pitch in all three matches will be the responsibility of more than 22 players.

“We’ve got a three day turnaround between Worcester and Sale, and those three days can only be about recovery and player management. So we have worked hard this week to prepare for both games, allowing the players to just concentrate on recovery in the two days before we play Sale.”

Both teams come into this game on the back of a good run of form. Worcester are unbeaten in four consecutive matches, their best run since arriving in the Premiership, whilst Wasps have won their last five Guinness Premiership outings. A sixth would equal the best run in the league this season, set by Bath.

McGeechan said: “This is the start of our run in to the end of the season, and every game is going to be critical to our goal of reaching the play offs.

“It is good to have Tom Voyce and Joe Worsley back at this busy time, and in Worcester we are facing a side that is playing well and have beaten some of the top sides in England recently. They are on a roll and we need to be on top of our game to compete.”
