Cipriani dropped by England
Danny Cipriani has been dropped by England coach Brian Ashton for “inappropriate behaviour” ahead of this weekend’s meeting with Scotland.
Cipriani met England management before the squad flew from Heathrow to Edinburgh today after he was photographed leaving a London nightclub at 12:30am this morning.
England players were released from their Bath training base yesterday afternoon and London-based members of the squad were allowed to return to the capital to spend a night in their own homes before heading to Scotland.
England team protocol insists on players sticking to agreed guidelines for behaviour established as a squad. While these are not written down, all squad members agree to the guidelines when joining up with England and accept punishments will be handed out if rules are broken.
Iain Balshaw, who was dropped to make way for Cipriani, has been recalled.
The Rugby Football Union say no further disciplinary action will be taken against Cipriani but he has been warned and advised about his future conduct.
Ashton said: “I have taken the decision regarding Danny and the matter is now closed. I will keep an open mind on selecting him for future games.”
Cipriani, who was set to make his first international start, will not travel to Scotland with the rest of the England squad.
